AFC Ajax Form

Ajax was one of the most successful clubs in the world in the 20th century, and is one of five teams that have earned the right to keep the European Cup and to wear a multiple-winner badge.

Not only is Ajax famous for its renowned youth programme that has produced many Dutch talents over the years, it’s also churned out a fine pedigree of coaches too. Following in the footsteps of Johan Cruyff, Louis van Gaal, Marco van Basten, and the 6th manager in 2 years to fill the void left by Erik ten Hag in June 2022 is Francesco Farioli.

“I am delighted to be here in Amsterdam, and together with the other staff members, we will dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly. We want to reconnect with the DNA of the club, aiming to bring new energy with a positive way of working and thinking. I’m aware that there is a lot of work to do, but we have already begun preparing. We don’t want to waste any time getting ready for the new season and bringing Ajax back to where it belongs.”

He spoke well when was appointed the new head coach on a three-year contract that runs until June 30, 2027. Based on his words, Ajax has been truly working hard under his tutelage and they look well on track.

The new season kicked off with the Europa League qualification. Ajax knocked out Vojvodina, Panathinaikos, and Jagiellonia to book their spot in the new group stage format of the second-tier European competition. In the Eredivisie, Ajax beat Heerenveen 1-0 to get the season underway, but they lost 2-1 to NAC Breda in their second league game of the season. Farioli’s men then thumped Sittard 5-0 to return to winning ways.

Taylor Kenneth, Bertrand Traore, Youri Baas, Devyne Rensch, and Chuba Akpom scored in the rout. On the road, De Godenzonen failed to win as they drew 1-1 with Go Ahead Eagles. In the Europa League opener against Besiktas, Ajax triumphed 4-0 before they eventually claimed their first three points on the road in the league against Waalwijk. Traore and Mika Godts scored in the second half of the cagey encounter. Back in Europe, 10-man Ajax drew 1-1 with Slavia Prague.

In all competitions, Ajax then went on a run of seven consecutive wins. Five of those wins came in the league where they defeated Groningen, Heracles, Willem II, Feyenoord, and PSV, while the other two wins came against Qarabag and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League. That winning streak eventually came to an end in a 2-2 draw at Twente in the league game just before the international break.

PEC Zwolle form

As for PEC Zwolle, they have blown hot and cold all season. The side opened the season with three consecutive defeats at the hands of Utrecht, Feyenoord, and Nijmegen before claiming their first points of the season in a 3-0 drubbing of Heracles. Dylan Vente, Dylan Mbayo, and Filip Karatsev scored in the resounding win. The Blauwvingers then picked a point against Twente to increase their season tally to four points. However, they managed to win just one of the next six games in all competitions. Nijmegen defeated them for the second time this season to send them out of the KNVB Beker. The only win in that miserable run was a 1-0 win over Almere City.

The month of November has started on a good note for the Blauwvingers, as they drew 2-2 with Go Ahead Eagles before a comprehensive 3-1 win over Sittard at home once again. Talisman Dylan Mbayo scored a brace, while Damian van der Haar added the other one to secure a comeback win. Overall, Zwolle has won three, drawn three, and lost the remaining 6 of their fixtures in the league this season. Games against Ajax are always difficult, and not now that they have started finding their rhythm under the Italian tactician.

Zwolle have been here and there with their performances this season. So, it is not surprising that they are not far from the bottom three at the moment. PEC Zwolle XI: Jasper Schendelaar; Sherel Floranus, Olivier Aertssen, Anselmo Garcia McNulty, Damian van der Haar; Davy van den Berg, Anouar El Azzouzi; Dylan Mbayo, Jamiro Monteiro, Younes Namli; Dylan Vente.

Prediction

Ajax have been excellent in the Eredivisie A this season. They have won all their five home games in the league this season, That will make things more difficult for their visitors on Sunday.

Ajax have the edge based on form and head-to-head. By the way, get your Ajax tickets early enough to catch the game.

On the other hand, Blauwvingers are up against it. They have not won on the road this season, and they travel to a side that has won all their home games in the league this season. Going by that alone, Ajax should take all three points and that’s the outcome that is expected.
