Who were the best signings of the last summer in the Premier League?

The Premier League is well on course and by September, the sails are well in motion and things are getting clearer. One of those things is the adaptability of the new signings in the transfer window.

The Premier League is not an easy league to quickly adapt into. The brawl and pace of the league is on a whole new level and players from other leagues tend to have a hard time in blending in as fast as possible.

Speaking of new signings, it is always hard to determine who will be a hit in the Premier League but football betting tips by Overlyzer can help do the hard work of prediction.

In some cases, excellent signings are made to look average and average signings are made to look amateurish. It is a testament to the fact that to survive in such a league takes the highest form of discipline and quality.

This past summer transfer window saw a host of quality and established players join the league.

The likes of Erling Haaland joined from Borussia Dortmund, Lisandro Martinez and Antony made their way from Ajax, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona and Arsenal had the likes of Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner join from Portugal and the United States respectively. Liverpool and Tottenham are not left out from the import of players outside England.

However, some of these teams also did business amongst themselves and within the league. Arsenal got a jackpot in snatching both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.  The Citizens themselves got Kalvin Philips from Leeds, and surprisingly laid off Raheem Sterling to Chelsea.

Some of the best signings have already been highlighted but in this article a closer perspective of a few of the best signings will be discussed.

Erling Haaland

The Norwegian has been nothing short of ruthless since the start of the new season, and his astronomical goal rush does not look to be slowing soon.

He joined the Citizens in a cut-price deal worth over £51m from Borrusia Dortmund, and from the onset that price looked a shadow of his true value and worth.

The 21-year-old has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he is the future of football, he has now scored 17 goals this season, 14 in the Premier League, and three consecutive hat tricks at home. A remarkable achievement for a player many saw as a flat track bully in the Bundesliga.

Without any reasonable doubt, he is the best signing not just in the Premier League but in the world.

Gabriel Jesus

The Brazilian has been a major propeller in Arsenal’s rise this season. His amazing work rate and contributions to Arsenal’s attacking system has tremendously transformed their fortunes and even without him scoring, the team looks better.

He has hit five goals this season, but that is not his biggest contribution to the team, as his linkup play is seen as the best of any striker this season. Mikel Arteta has seemingly gotten the final piece of the puzzle.

Raheem Sterling

The English winger joined Chelsea in a big money move from Manchester City in a deal worth over £45m. This was seen as a marquee deal given the player’s achievements. Sterling is currently Chelsea’s leading scorer with four goals and has been the stand out player in the team in terms of work rate.

He joined the Blues in a bid to gain more game time in the hope of securing a permanent spot in the starting lineup for the Three Lions of England in November. Though, his impact has not really changed the fortunes of Chelsea, as they had to let go of Thomas Tuchel due to poor performances and results.

Lisandro Martinez

The diminutive Argentine defender has been a divisive figure in the football media space. His arrival was seen as unnecessary given the massive aerial threats of forwards in the league which contrasted with his stout structure.

He has so far proven his doubters wrong with his aggressiveness, excellent ball distribution and interestingly, aerial awareness.

The passionate defender’s excellent form has even the captain, Harry Maguire from the team and has made the team look a better unit defensively. At this rate, he could easily stake a claim for player of the season at the club.

Tyrell Malacia

The young left back was originally signed from Feyenoord by Manchester United to be an understudy to Luke Shaw. However, Luke Shaw’s poor performances early this season has given room for the 23 year old to show the manager what he can offer, and it seems he has made the team much better offensively and even defensively. He makes the cut because he is giving far more than what was expected of him in Manchester.

Ivan Perisic

The experienced Croatian was signed to bolster the squad capacity of Tottenham. However, he has shown his usefulness in set pieces, and this has become an invaluable tool for Antonio Conte’s men in getting goals.

Christian Eriksen

The Dane is proving to be all shades of world-class with his tireless penchant for finding killer passes and tracking back to help the defence. Having spent half of last season at Brentford, few expected his career to receive such a major boost, Eriksen has been such an inspiration to watch this season.

He came on a free but he is proving invaluable to the Red Devils.
